The basics

The AP-Finder CD is a software system designed for users that want to assess and secure their wireless networks. It is based upon the BackTrack CD from Remote Exploit .

Our CD is designed to work specifically with the Atheros A/BG wireless cards, to ensure complete coverage of the entire IEEE 802.11 radio spectrum. And, it includes CyanLine’s AP-Finder, software that reports on the signal strength of access points within range, presented in an easy to read graph.

Starting with version 2.0, AP-Finder also inter-operates with Kismet, meaning that you can get the great functionality of both tools at once.

How it works:

AP-Finder monitors the wireless conversations within range and notes the strength of the signal for each conversation. Using a custom algorithm, it will tell you when an access point is within 20 feet, or even within 10 feet. AP-hunter automatically updates the readings 2 times a second, making this the perfect tool to use while walking around searching for access points.

Requirements

AP-Finder CD requires a laptop with a CD-ROM drive and an Atheros based wireless card. We recommend the Linksys WPC55AG wireless card.
